A little information behind the company.

Stealth Bike Bags was founded by myself, Michael Trudgen, in mid 2014.

I'd been mountain biking for most of my life when I discovered the joy of combining mountain biking with camping — known as bikepacking. I quickly found there weren't great options for carrying gear on a bike, so I started making bags for myself and friends. Once the designs were tested and refined, I decided to start selling them.

New Zealand has some wonderful mountain bike trails, and over the past decade even more have been built, alongside a growing calendar of bikepacking events like the Tour Aotearoa and Tour Te Waipounamu, which have brought a lot more riders into the sport. thoroughly enjoy any form of adventure, and these days that includes shorter, slower trips closer to home with the addition of a child - including her first bikepacking and tramping adventures. I hope to help you on your path to yours, whatever that looks like.

While bikepacking is where it started, I've since expanded into tramping and hiking gear too, including the Rata 25 and Rata 40 packs — a lot of the same thinking that goes into a good bike bag applies just as well to a pack you carry on your back.

I produce every bag myself in Wellington, New Zealand, now running seven industrial sewing machines along with a laser cutter and programmable pattern sewer, and all the specialist tools that go with them. These days I work with a range of technical fabrics depending on the bag - Cordura, Challenge's ECOPAK and ULTRA200, and Dimension Polyant's X-Pac and Liteskin - you can read more about each on my fabrics page.
